"You're going to be late for work..."
"Ragnbjorgs are never late for work."
Astrithr lay peacfully upon the chest of her soon-to-be husband, Darak. The muscular, dark-haired Stormwind guard smiled and kept her held close beneath the blankets, eyeing his lover lovingly.
"You only have an hour," he quietly responded. "Don't you have a special arrangement today?"
"Mm, yes... We've found the corruption has spread even to the top ranks. It saddens me that my role as the new lead inspector will be short-lived, but the greater good is being done here today."
Darak chuckled softly. "Who would have thought that health and sanitaiton could ever be such a corrupt department?"
"Lazy people," Astrithr answered. "They're willing to risk the health of their patrons to not even save gold. If they'd put the money they spend on bribes into keeping their establishment clean, they'd all have perfect places!"
"Old Town isn't exactly the cleanest by default either, Astri. Be careful in there, okay?"
"I am a priestess of the Light, and a woman with a duty to fulfill, Darak. I can defend myself, and I cannot allow Old town to continue to fall into a state of disrepair. I won't turn a blind eye to our wonderful city sinking further into corruption. I already saw one home fall in Lordaeron."
Darak sighed and closed his eyes, giving the young woman a firm squeeze. "Fine, just promise me you'll be okay? I'm not happy about what happened at the Pig and Whistle. When people start attacking you for doing your job, I'm going to get involved."
"Don't you worry about them. Their reputation is well-documented, and I was ready. Besides... I have a little surprise for them..."
-----------------
"I'm sorry, Astrithr but the decision is final - you're to avoid Old Town in your duties. Inspector Drebin will be handling all duties there from now on."
Astrithr sighed and closed her eyes, her gaze losing it's focus on her supervisor.
"So it's come to this then, m'lord. You've sunk to that low?"
"What are you talking about?" He calmly questioned, brow perking as a small contingent of city guards stepped into the office. "What are they doing here?"
"Sir, by the power vested in me by the Kingdom of Stormwind, and this warrant issued after thorough ivnestigation by SI:7, I place you under arrest for the crimes of accepting bribes and failure to complete the duties so sworn in a legal manner."
"WHAT?!" He angrily snapped as the guards closed in around him. "You can't do this to me!"
"It only pays to be corrupt until you're caught, sir."
------------------
"Astrithr, you'll be handling the duties of the Chief Investigator until a suitable replacement is found."
Astri's eyes widened in shock, her hands trembled, and she gasped lightly. "M..Me, sir?"
"Why not you?" Lord Paulson questioned in return. "You took a demotion from your position to work as an inspector when all this corruption was discovered, so why not elevate you back to something near your former position?"
"I uh... It's just..."
"The same thing your father was?"
"Yes, sir..."
"Well then," the elderly man smiled. "I'm sure he's very proud of you right now. Turn in your badge, and take your new one."
Astrithr sucked in a deep breath, beaming with proudness.
Stormwind would clean itself up under the watchful gaze of the newly-returned King, or she was going to die trying!
