Tobias leaned back in his chair, one of his boot-clad feet moving up and down to a tune only he could hear. The end of a lollipop stuck out of his mouth as he sucked on the cherry flavored candy. He smiled as he observed the skies above Theramore Isle, the seagulls soaring above. A lot of people hated the things, but Tobias was actually a bit fond of the constantly squawking birds. But then, he was also a very patient young man.
"Deputy Viridiant?" Came the voice of a teenage boy.
Tobias took the lollipop out and looked down from the sky to see a good friend of his. Leon, the mail boy, had made fast friends with the talkative deputy early on. That had mainly been due to the boy's fondness for the tales Tobias would tell of his mom. Part of a respected guild called the Order of the Rose, Shaila Viridiant was, as Tobias told it, an accomplished explorer as well as a fighter. And it had certainly seemed to hold true, from the boy's impression of her the two times she had come over to visit. A bright-eyed woman of surprisingly small stature, Leon could tell just from the way she carried herself that she was an adventurer. The scars on her face and the missing ear had only lent more weight to it.
Of course, there had also been the blue-haired night elf that had been with her. Humans and night elves traveling together was still not a common sight even after all these years the two races had been allied.
The most obvious trait Tobias himself shared with his mother was his green eyes. They made him look a bit younger than his actual age of twenty-one, though his general demeanor helped with that as well. A kind smile was almost always on that face, his head covered with mid-length brown hair. He was well built and lean, and stood at about 5'9''. He usually dressed in rugged leathers when on the job, though currently he was wearing a loose fitting white cloth shirt, black pants, and large brown boots.
"Good day, huh Leon?" Tobias' voice was kind, not having the usual roughness of other guards and officials.
"Yes sir, Deputy. Uh, letter sir." The boy fumbled with a letter in his hands, eventually managing to hand it over.
"Oh, great!" Tobias sat up straight in his chair, and took the letter. "Thank you. Hey, what are you doing today? I was gonna fish in the bay later on, maybe stop by Topper McNabb's old spot."
Leon grinned. "No thanks, sir. I'm gonna ask Eva out!"
Tobias grinned back. "Better do it this time. I won't forgive you if you skimp out on a fishing trip for nothing."
Leon saluted. "Yes!"
"Get outta here then," he said, giving a relaxed salute in return. "And hey, good luck."
Leon nodded briefly, then rushed off. Tobias leaned back in his chair, going back to his lollipop as he opened the letter. From the too large, messy handwriting on the envelope, he had a pretty good idea who it was from already. Looking at the letter, his suspicions were confirmed.
Dear Stuffed Shirt,
What's up, Tobias? This is your little sister. No, not the half-elf, the normal one. Jaina! What are you doing these days? Are you still being all law enforcing and shit? Hey, you should tell your friends that your sister's a pirate. I wonder if you're gonna arrest me someday.
Anyway, whatever. I just wanted to let you know that we're on our way to Winterspring now. Fen and me, I mean. I gave those other guys time off. I think Tybalus is gonna dream about Fen all the time until we all get back together. I bet they're gonna be perverted dreams too. He wants to do her. It's funny. Oh, Fen says hi!
But yeah, we're headed down to Winterspring now. Or up I guess. Anyways yeah, I'm finally getting that fucking money that aunt Yva left me. I wonder if she's still alive. Or unalive. Whatever. Shit I keep getting sidetracked and my eraser's totally gone. But yeah, Fen and I are going to get the money and then going to finally get our ship. Can you believe it? It's freaking great! Captain Jaina Viridiant, best pirate ever! That'll be me. And the others are gonna make a great crew. I bet I'll even be able to take on mom someday.
I forget what else I wanted to write you about. Anyway, love ya. Bye!
Suckserely (heh heh),
Jaina
Tobias smiled as he folded the letter back up, shaking his head slightly. "Be careful, sis..."

Winterspring
Jaina stared up at the nearby mountain slope as she lowered her gun, the barrel still smoking.
"Fuck, Fen...I think I started an avalanche."
