Hai!
So, for those of you following along at home, a part of Annalea's past has come back to haunt her. This is mostly her own damned fault, but that's my impulsive girl for you.
I've had a few people ask if they could hop in and be part of the story, once Anna was done being stubborn and trying to handle it herself. Now that the boss knows, I think it's about time to open the story up to anyone who's interested.
What does this mean for you? Anything you'd like! There are all sorts of possibilities here, so I'll toss out a few guidelines, and if you'd like to write up your own Creepy Fane Encounter, run with it! Note that it doesn't have to be a direct confrontation; maybe someone's walking towards the Pig and gets the feeling he/she is being watched, or some of the kids who are constantly underfoot in Stormwind are frightening one another with stories about the man with the twisted hand. Maybe it's simply someone overhearing a bit of gossip between nobles (or their help) at the bank.
Tarq's talked before about wanting to explore more of Stormwind's underground. Someone else has talked about how the noble houses might work. If you see opportunity there, awesome! And if you have other suggestions, I'm open to them.
Please note - participation in this is absolutely not mandatory. I don't intend for it to step on any of the other stories our characters have going at the moment. (Hell, the original fight in Shattrath wasn't supposed to be anything more than Anna stirring shit, and then suddenly it was "Oh, by the way: backstory.") But if you're looking for a bit of tasty subplot, or want to work one of those gorram addictive tropes into a story, this might be a neat place to play with it.
I'm stealing a page from Uthas' book, and laying this out the way he did the Swellcrest stories: here are some basic rules. From there, do as ye list.
What is known:
Pretty much everything that's in Anna's Tale. (If anyone needs a brief summary, let me know. I know it's wicked long.) She's admitted to picking the fight in Shattrath a few months back, where Fane recognized her. He's been shadowing her ever since, and now he has her notebook with the formula for the oil that ruined his hand and killed his friend.
NPCs:
These are the major players so far, and what is easily learned about them. You're more than welcome to fill in the blanks on the elder two Lords Fairfax or any of the other four Ladies Mortimer.
Aumery Fane: - once the right-hand man and personal guard of Lord Danyll Fairfax, now somewhat diminished by the loss of use of his right hand. Raised in Stormwind's orphanage until about the age of 13, then left to live as a petty thief among the denizens of Cutthroat Alley. Tried to attract the notice of Mathias Shaw and SI:7 but was never contacted by so much as the least of the Fingers.
Hired as the middle Fairfax' bodyguard at seventeen, then moved into Danyll's service when Danyll turned fourteen and required an entourage of his own. Fane was 22, eight years older than his employer. Has served House Fairfax for seventeen years - half his life.
Merrock Hartwell (deceased): - Genial, jolly, connected and deadly. A penchant for pretty whores - "Look, friend, if I arrive an hour before our meeting's to begin, why would I waste my time waiting alone at a table? If the idea of me having a tumble before we meet repulses you, show up sooner!" Everyone liked him -- even the whores (despite the fact he was a lousy tipper). If you needed it, Merrock could get it for you.
No one really knows what he did for Danyll Fairfax. It's assumed that he served as some kind of informant, keeping an eye on trade and trends and rumors that the House could make use of. But if you asked someone to list his duties, they'd stare blankly for a few minutes, then shrug.
Lord Danyll Fairfax: - The youngest of the three Fairfax brothers. Parents killed by the Plague. Married to Elisabeth Mortimer. No children yet.
Lady Elisabeth Mortimer: From one of the older Stormwind Houses. Shrewd, calculating woman. Probably a few years older than her husband. Her House is easily the more powerful of the two, though the alliance with Fairfax is beneficial to Mortimer's interests, too.

"More what you'd call... 'guidelines'"
This is pretty much an anything-goes sort of project. There are only a few things I'd ask that you not do. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
--you can have a confrontation with Fane, even a fight if you'd like, but no killing him off just yet, please. Same goes with Danyll Fairfax and Elizabeth Mortimer.
--if you'd like your character to find something out about any of those people, or even Anna, please just run it by Fingold or myself first - there are a few cards that have yet to be revealed, but so as long as nothing contradicts them, no worries.
--it's okay to have known or known of Fane and Hartwell from a few years back. They were both fairly prominent among the thieves and shadier denizens of Stormwind. Fane wouldn't have been your drinking buddy, but if you moved in the same circles, it's possible that there might have been a passing acquaintance.
That about covers it, I think. Dabble away! It can be as tied into or as tangential to the rest as you'd like it to be. If there's a specific line of information you're looking for in regards to the story, let me know. But, yeah, playground's open.
