No where near an exact match, but there are some elements to this song that remind me of Ethala a bit
Symphony X - Of Sins and Shadows
Passing through the void The darkest grand illusion Chaos is riding on the wind
Destroyed in agony They create a maddened lair Summon all to hear their cry
Innocence fading away The dying eyes of the prey
(Chorus) Desperate cries, hail of fire deciding All our fate in the night Tempt in sin, shadows then begin to Gather the souls they hold within
Victims of desire Pestilence of their invasion Forms then take on evil waves
Paralyze, victimize The shadows fall And enter fast from the sky (from the sky) Summon all to heed their cry
Innocence fading away The dying eyes of the prey
(Chorus)
I've betrayed - slowly fade I repent my inner plea I've denied - sanctified Cannot hide from this monstrosity
I'm immersed in a curse Of this jaded imagery Realize that your cries Only jeopardize this legacy
(Chorus)
(Chorus)

One Song?
...
DANGIT!
Well...
There's the obvious Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence."
Him being mute and all.
Or there's the less obvious OCremix, "Mega Man 3 Blue Lighting" by Disco Dan.
... Either way, listen to that OCremix. Tis 8 minutes of awesomenesss... Rawr and stuff.

I like Gux's Wiley Metal OCremix. But yeah, Disco Dan's Blue lightning is awesome too. I just never usually listen to it all the way through >.>

Sade - Nothing can come between us
I always hope that you remember We'll never really learn the meaning of it all What we have is strong and tender So hold on In the middle of the madness When the time is running out and you're left alone All I want is you to know that It's strong still Can't pull us apart Nothing can come Between us Nothing can pull us apart Can come Between us
I always hope that you remember What we have is strong and tender In the middle of the madness Hold on
So it truly is a good thing And I always wanted you to know There is always this And this is everlasting Hold on
It's about faith It's about trust, yeah yeah It's about faith It's about trust
Nothing can come Nothing can come Nothing can come between us

I was listening to Silly Wizard's "The Fisherman's Song" today, and it REALLY reminded me of this picture. By the storm-torn shoreline a woman is standing The spray strung like jewels in her hair And the sea tore the rocks near the desolate landing As though it had known she stood there Chorus: For she had come down to condemn that wild ocean For the murderous loss of her man His boat sailed out on wednesday morning And it's feared it's gone down with all hands Oh and white were the wave-caps And wild was their parting So fierce is the warring of love But she prayed to the gods Both of men and of sailors Not to cast their cruel nets o'er her love There's a school on the hill Where the songs of dead fathers Are led toward tempests and gales Where their god-given wings Are clipped close to their bodies And their eyes are bound-'round with ships' sails What force leads a man To a life filled with danger High on seas or a mile underground? It's when need is his master And poverty's no stranger And there's no other work to be found

This thread needs to be posted in more.
This song reminds me very much of Tarquin and Ceil.
Dropkick Murphys - "Upstarts And Broken Hearts"
I once met a young girl filled with fire, That saw through my front to this shell of a man She knew I'd be a handful from the start, This strong willed woman had an angels heart The holes in these wings don't allow me to fly So you'd better brace for a life of pain, And if fate is the path to this better life Somehow I feel you'll never see the faces change
[Chorus:] Through thick and thin, She stood by you She held the key to my broken heart
I look back and wonder, Sit and ponder. How I could have ever neglected you. For the blood soaked soil on the old ball field, I gambled on a hand I wasn't ready to lose But if the tables were turned and I faced the troubles, Tough times and struggles I put you through I'd of been there as you were through horror and hardship My life and my love are pledged to you.
[Chorus]
Remember the nights she waited and wondered, fused to a myth that it had taken it's toll. But this Godless man has mended his way, Never again will she be alone.
I remember it well, Still I always knew that she was destined to be my bride This woman had pride, She was full of life. I could see the passion in her eyes. She thought she found a man, But she fell for the devil An evil monster in disguise. Now I'll honor and obey, Forever stay. True to you, my Irish rose

That is fucking good, especially considering what's around the corner. Eerily enough, I thought of a song from a very similar perspective today; I hate to admit that 90s Metallica is even good, let alone appropriate for a writing situation, but goddamnit I like this song. "Unforgiven II."
Lay beside me, tell me what they've done Speak the words I wanna hear, to make my demons run The door is locked now, but it's open if you're true If you can understand the me, than I can understand the you
Lay beside me, under wicked sky The black of day, dark of night, we share this paralyze The door cracks open, but there's no sun shining through Black heart scarring darker still, but there's no sun shining through No, there's no sun shining through No, there's no sun shining...
What I've felt, what I've known Turn the pages, turn the stone Behind the door, should I open it for you....
What I've felt, what I've known Sick and tired, I stand alone Could you be there, 'cause I'm the one who waits for you Or are you unforgiven too?
Lay beside me, this won't hurt I swear She loves me not, she loves me still, but she'll never love again She lay beside me, But she'll be there when I'm gone Black heart scarring darker still, yes she'll be there when I'm gone Yes, she'll be there when I'm gone Dead sure she'll be there...
What I've felt, what I've known Turn the pages, turn the stone Behind the door, should I open it for you....
What I've felt, what I've known Sick and tired, I stand alone Could you be there, 'cause I'm the one who waits for you Or are you unforgiven too?
Lay beside me, tell me what I've done The door is closed, so are you're eyes But now I see the sun, now I see the sun Yes now I see it
What I've felt, what I've known Turn the pages, turn the stone Behind the door, should I open it for you....
What I've felt, what I've known Sick and tired, I stand alone Could you be there, 'cause I'm the one who waits, The one who waits for you....
Oh what I've felt, what I've known Turn the pages, turn the stone Behind the door, should I open it for you.... (So I dub thee unforgiven....)
Oh, what I've felt.... Oh, what I've known....
I take this key (never free...) And I bury it (never me...) in you Because you're unforgiven too....

Tarq, damn you, Unforgiven 2 is Mahat and Invy's romance theme! :-P
Since his inception, I've thought of the old song, "I'm a Rover" as Invy's theme. Lyrics as follows;
Though the night be dark as dungeon, not a star to be seen above I will be guided without a stumble, into the arms of me only love. I went up to her bedroom window, kneeling gently upon a stone I rapped on her bedroom window "My darling dear, do you lie alone"?
[Chorus:]
I'm a rover , seldom sober I'm a rover of high degree Ans when I'm drinking, I'm always thinking How to gain my love's company.
She raised her head up from her feather pillow, raised her arms up around her breast, Saying "Who's at me bedroom window, disturbing me at me long night's rest? "It's only me, your own true lover, open the door and please let me in. For I have come on a long night's journey. I am near drenched to the skin".
[Chorus]
She opened the door with the greatest pleasure, opened the door and she let me in We both shook hands and embraced each other. 'Til the morning we lay as one. "Well now me love, I must go and leave you, though the mountains be high above Well, I will climb them with greater pleasure that I have been with me only love".
Invy's band of friends and allies and enemies can all be summed up by the wonderful song "Ugly", by the Exies.
Are you ugly? A liar like me? A user, a lost soul? Someone you don't know Money it's no cure A Sickness so pure Are you like me? Are you ugly?
[Chorus] We are dirt, we are alone You know we are far from sober! We are fake, we are afraid You know it's far from over We are dirt we are alone You know we are far from sober! Look closer, are you like me? Are you ugly?
Turn a blind eye Why do I deny? Medicate me So I die Happy A strain of cancer Chokes the answers Are you like me? A liar like me?
[Chorus]
I don't care, you don't care I'm bitter, you're angry. You don't care, I don't care You love you, just like me I blame you, you blame me I'm bitter, you're angry. You don't care, I don't care You love you, like me
[Chorus]
Are you Ugly? [X3]

I'd contribute, but it'd either be some form of mainstream stuff that would probably make flame come out of all your eyeballs, or some ancient gaelic tune that would make Jolly-character weep. The pansy.

Reminds me of a few of our Riders.
"Selfish Man"
I don't eat I just devour, everyone in every hour All is me, is all I need and that's all that I care Propelled through all this madness, by your beauty and my sadness I'll never change or rearrange, till I've finished what I've started.
And life leads me here It shows me, I have never really loved no one but me Like the time, you slipped through my hands I'll never understand why I'm such a Selfish Man
Walk around me not before me I'll pretend not to ignore ye But I'll compromise if I realize you can do something for me I'm ugly and you know it, but you think that I'm a poet So I'll keep the rhyme if I feel in time, it gets me where I'm going
And life leads me here It shows me, I have never really loved no one but me Like the time, you slipped through my hands And I'll never understand No I'll never understand, why I'm such a Selfish Man
All I heard was an unearthly silence Apart from the violence, explode in my head Where all at once was this moment of beauty No more since it slew me, no never again, again, again
No I'll never understand No I'll never understand, why I'm such a Selfish Man

I'm just posting this because it is the Best Goddamn Song Ever. Whenever Invy's depressed, or Sad RP (SRP) starts, I play this. If you can listen to the Dubliner's version of this song for the first time and not cry, you have no soul. Dropkick Murphy's did a version that, while not as sad, is just as good. www.petestjohn.com/fields.htm By a lonely prison wall I heard a young girl calling Micheal they are taking you away For you stole Trevelyn's corn So the young might see the morn. Now a prison ship lies waiting in the bay. Chorus Low lie the Fields of Athenry Where once we watched the small free birds fly. Our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing It's so lonely 'round the Fields of Athenry. -2- By a lonely prison wall I heard a young man calling Nothing matter Mary when your free, Against the Famine and the Crown I rebelled they ran me down Now you must raise our child with dignity. Chorus -3- By a lonely harbor wall She watched the last star falling As that prison ship sailed out against the sky Sure she'll wait and hope and pray For her love in Botany Bay It's so lonely 'round the Fields of Athenry. Chorus

The version I have is by a guy named Gerry Heaney, off a CD called Celtic World. Whenever I want Jolly to kill himself over and over again about his first wife, it's the following. Dunno where it came from originally. $10 Wal Mart CDs FTMF'inW. The Briar And The Rose
I fell asleep down by a stream And there I had the strangest dream And down by Brennan's Glenn there grows A briar and a rose
There's a tree in the forest And I don't know where I built a nest out of your hair And climbing up into the air A briar and a rose
Now I don't know how long it's been But I was born in Brennan's Glenn And near the end of spring there grows The briar and the rose
I picked the rose one early morn I pricked my finger on a thorn It had grown so close Its winding wove The briar and the rose
I tried to tear them both apart I felt a bullet through my heart All dressed up in spring's new clothes The briar and the rose
And when I'm buried and in my grave Tell me, so I may know Your tears may fall To make love grow The briar and the rose
And when I'm buried and in my grave Tell me, so I may know Your tears may fall To make love grow The briar and the rose Male and female vocals only, a cello accompanying for all of two verses in the song.
